Yes, I have a task that your skills are suited for.
[ She smiles, like he's supposed to pleased that she thought of him and his expertise. ]
The princess was in contact with the prisoner king, prior to her disappearance. I would like you to find out if she confided this to anyone else. Tutors, maids, friends. If nothing else, perhaps a journal. It is an interesting burden for her to have kept all to herself. And I doubt she did.
[And this is Connor, both eager to please and eager to prove useful. He was not created for idle hands, and when the problem itself has become so looming and large with no clear solution just yet, it's the equivalent of burs under faux skin.
So the smile is taken well, though his own face is schooled to something amicably placid. He settles down to the ground in a half-float in the water, bottom half of his tie unable to freely unhinge itself from its clip.]
Cell 394. Several had tried to locate the exact cell number with limited information. It's unfortunate that none of us were able to figure it out sooner.
[Though with how everything has escalated? He wonders at how much good it would have done.]
So you want me to begin questioning those close to her. I can do that; I had considered it prior to now. [A beat.] Have you thought about searching the cell itself?
I have searched the cell. [ She reaches, and pushes the stack of history books a bit closer. ] She requested these books, and took them to him. The librarians have verified her request for them, and they tell me there is nothing subversive to their contents, that they detail the early history of Akvos. Which includes the ousting of the mermen. They did indeed once rule here; even a merman by the same name.
I wonder if the princess became sympathetic to that plight. For love, or for justice. Or if she was only ever foolishly curious.
[ She pushes her heavy plaited hair over her shoulder in a thoughtless gesture. ]
There were also runes inscribed on the interior of the cell, I have sent the wizards down to make some sense of them. And left this task for you. I assume my instructions don't seem out of line?
Not at all. But I'm programmed to possess an investigative mind. I prefer to be exacting and thorough with all details of a case, even if I'm not presiding specifically over them.
[That clarified, the LED at his temple spins in a smooth circle a handful of times, lighting his temple blue. Connor reaches out to examine the spine of the books Ilde's nudged towards him.]
Love, justice, curiosity. Or this sympathy was the result of manipulation by outside influences, maybe the "King" himself. This is a possibility as well. Word is that she had been acting strangely and out of sorts, after all.
[Runes, though.] I'd like to look at these runes, if at all possible. I'm no wizard, of course, but maybe there's a pattern that my programming would be able to pick up on. Something worthy of note, if they can't be deciphered otherwise.
[ Her head tilts slightly, watching. He reminds her of some of the more powerful shadow soldiers. The weak ones had no personality or will, but the more power they collected the more individuality they showed. But ultimately, still slaves to their masters. ]
I will be joining them shortly, you may come with me.
[It may not be a parallel too far from the truth. Connor, the most advanced prototype in his world, an android capable of distinct and individual action; but only as long as it adhered to his overall mission, his lingering prerogative that hung over his head like a steel blade.]
Yes, I’d like that, Ilde. I’m here to provide any sort of assistance you might need with this, as well as offer my own insight when necessary.
I think this mission has granted us a clearer goal from the start: find the missing princess. And the darkness that we're meant to fight seems to have manifested itself in a more straightforward manner.
[Dark creatures, the twisted changes in the environment around them.]
That being said, it has its difficulties. Many of us weren't made to traverse underwater, which makes it harder despite Astoria's magic. Then there's the fact that we started off split up from one another, with our method of communicating down.
Thus far, I think I preferred Struxta more. I was better suited for it, being an android. That world was more technological and machine-based.

Whenever you’re ready, we’ll go.

Come then. What do you think of this mission? How does it compare to the previous world?
